James Edward Horne of Kiowa County

James Edward, born 2 Apr 1902, was the son of Samuel Lanthis Horne and elimira Jane "Ellie" Tanner.

Jim's wife, Opal Tanner, born 8 Apr 1907, was the daughter of Charles David Tanner and Emma D. Stonecipher. Jim picked up Opal from school and they eloped. Grandfather James Tanner did not approve of them marrying, since they were cousins, family lore says he disowned them. Jim's mother, Ellie Tanner Horne was the sister of Charles D.Tanner, Opals's father. Opal's Memoirs can be see here.

Jim and Opal married on 28 Feb 1924 in Weatherford, Parker County, Texas.

Jim passed away Dec of 1972 at age 71. Opal died 24 Sep 1985 at age 78. They are both buried at Snyder Fairlawn Cemetery, the Family Headstone was made according to Jim's request. The granite was taken from a quarry on the mountain that was part of the family homestead, Elanor's husband and a quarry master removed the piece that was used.

They were the parents of 6 children:
